Microsoft's MAI model family and Maia accelerator narrative point to a broader strategy: offer AI through a cloud platform that can combine in-house, partner and open models. Satya Nadella has consistently framed Azure as a platform for this multi-model reality.

For customers, this can improve choice and resilience, but it can also make governance more complex. Models have different data paths, geographic availability, pricing and safety controls.

Define model-selection policy at the application level. Record which model handled sensitive workloads and make switching providers or deployments a tested operational capability.
